Celebrating 90 Years!

This year we salute the 90 Years of Business and Dedication to the Foley-Belsaw Family of Independent Business People. With the belief that there was a future in the sharpening business, Walter M. Ringer, Sr., acquired Foley Manufacturing Company and the saw filing machine in 1926. After moving into the plant it was learned that only about 5% of the filing machines worked.  This necessitated a shut-down. Freeman Collier, Andrew Peterson, and and Engineer named Manning spent the entire year of 1927 redesigning and developing the Foley Saw Filer.  Before the filer was offered to the consumer, Mr. Ringer sought the endorsement of saw manufacturers across the U.S.A. After receiving approvals from Disston Saw Company of Philadelphia, PA, and Simonds Saw and Steel Company of Fitchburg, MA, Foley then received an approval from the Carpenters Union.

It was during this time that Mr. Ringer conceived the idea of selling more than just a filing machine. His ideas was that the machine was secondary to the opportunity it provided an individual to start their own business. The times have changed and many training programs and machines have been offered to provide individuals with the opportunity to take control of their financial futures. As the times change, so to the opportunities and Foley-Belsaw will continue to be a resource for those looking to start their own business.  This concept still remains in place today and represents many independent businesses started from a dream, a team, and a dedication to financial independence.
